Description Serow was designated as a prefectural animal by Tochigi Prefecture in January 1964.
The average length of the animal is about 1.2 m. It lives in coniferous forests in winter and feeds on young shoots.
Nasu Animal Kingdom in Nasu Town is engaged in breeding Japanese serows from Shikoku, and as of April 2023, two of them, Mikage (male) and Tenia (female), are on display to the public in rotation.
