This armor is said to have been worn by Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara, and is a work of the Momoyama period.

Modifications were made to the traditional Japanese armor style with the introduction of matchlock guns, which led to the creation of modern armor during this era. The Nanban Dou Gusoku armour gained popularity among the warlords of the time due to its adaption or imitation of newly arrived Western European armours.

The armour comprises two parts with ridges on the front and silver inlay on the linear carvings. Its helmet is peach-shaped with a layered paint design, whilst the shoulder guards are fashioned from two half-moon shaped metal plates, fastened with rivets, and borrowed from Western armory. The armour includes traditional cheek guards and gauntlets adorned with scattered paulownia crests, resulting in a striking appearance that contrasts with the foreign style.

Its historical significance is conveyed by an ink inscription on the copper outer box that reads "Armor worn at Sekigahara encampment". Additionally, the armour chest has the shape of a Yamabushi backpack, complete with a hemp rope carrying strap.
