Description The Nikko Toshogu Shrine was established in 1617 and underwent significant construction in 1636 under the 3rd shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, and was completed in just 1 year and 5 months.
The stone torii gate was donated by Kuroda Nagamasa in 1618, with the central plaque inscribed by Emperor Gomizuno-o
The five-story pagoda was donated by Sakai Tadakatsu in 1650.
The entire complex underwent major repairs in the 3rd year of the Genroku Era (1690)
