Description The former Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa is located approximately 1 km west of the Nikko Futaarasan Shrine Shinto Bridge. It was established in 1899 for the Crown Prince Yoshihito Harunomiya (Emperor Taisho), and underwent extensive additions and renovations between 1918 and 1921, until its present form was almost completed.

The building is a one-story wooden structure, partly two or three stories high, with a copper shingle roof, and consists of the front part centering on the audience hall, the residential part including the throne room and the empress' throne room, and the domestic part including the ladies' quarters, main palace dormitory, and kitchen, covering an area of approximately 4,500㎡.

The vast architectural complex was meticulously designed and supervised by the Ministry of the Imperial Household from the overall plan to the smallest detail, and the main buildings are exquisitely constructed using carefully selected quality materials.

The main buildings are exquisitely constructed using carefully selected materials. The entirety of this large-scale wooden imperial residence from the Meiji and Taisho periods has been preserved, making it a rare find. It is also valuable as a typical example of a modern Japanese-style residence, with its excellent design down to the smallest detail.

The building was restored and renovated by Tochigi Prefecture, and part of it has been open to the public since August 2000, and the training room and training hall have been open to the public since October 2003.
