Title Kurumaduka Tumulus
Designation Date 1926/02/24
Cities / Towns Mibu
Description The mound was built in three stages, and the flat surface of the first stage of the mound is characterized by its broad construction. The diameter of the first tier is 82m, the second 52m, and the third 32m. The height from the bottom of the moat (perimeter ditch) is approximately 11m.

The mound is almost completely surrounded by a circular moat and earthen mound, and the total length of the mound, including the earthen mound, reaches 120m.

On the south side of the mound, there is an opening to a stone chamber made of a huge single stone of pseudolimestone. On the back wall of the stone chamber, traces of red coloring can be recognized. It is known from documents on the Edo period that the stone chamber was already open at that time.

Today, Kurumazuka Kofun is covered with many groves of trees, but when the mound was built, the entire mound was covered with stones, and it is thought that the appearance of the mound was appropriate for the tomb of a powerful person who ruled this area.

In recent years, excavations by the Mibu Town Board of Education have revealed a new ditch on the outer side of the mound, revealing that this burial mound had a double ditch.
