Description The Kabasaki Temple Site is located in the valley of Kabasaki, about 4.5 km northeast of the site of Ashikaga Family Residence (Bannaji Temple), in the mountainous area. It is the site of a temple and mausoleum built at the end of the 12th century by the Ashikaga clan, a powerful warrior clan representing the eastern part of Japan in the Middle Ages.

The ruins of the mausoleum and other buildings are located at the eastern foot of Mt. Kabasaki. There was Pure Land-style garden at south area. Kabasaki Hachimangu Shrine, where Ashikaga Yoshikane is said to have entered, still remains. It is important as the site of a medieval temple that represents the medieval history of Eastern Japan and the Buddhist culture of the Ashikaga clan and the Kamakura nobles.
