| Description | This picture scroll records the scenes along the Nikko Douchu and Nikko Douchu Mibu Street, which became the pilgrimage route when Abe Mimasaka-no-Kami Masatake (lord of the Oshi Domain in Musashi Province, later a senior councilor) made a proxy visit to the Taiyuin Mausoleum in the 6th year of Enpō(1678) on behalf of the 4th Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna. Established in the first year of Keian (1648), this picture scroll is extremely valuable as it documents the appearance of the newly completed cedar-lined paths in Nikko at the time. |
