Description |
This is a replica of the mounted warrior (cavalier) statue known until recently as Ashikaga Takauji (Important Cultural Property, owned by Kyoto National Museum). It is now believed to be a portrait of Takauji's steward (shitsuji), Kō no Moronao, or his son, Kō no Moroakira. Since the dimensions of this statue are almost the same as those of the original and it is a faithful copy of the original, it is thought that it was produced based on the original. It is highly likely that this statue was owned by Kobori Tomoto (1864-1931), a native of Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, and a major historical painter, who used it as a model for his work. |
