Description |
This material is one of the clay figures called mimizuku (horned owl) dogu. The name derives from its resemblance to a horned owl. The eyes and mouth are made of pasted clay disks, and the outline of the face is surrounded by a series of notches. The pattern engraved at the base of the neck indicates the date of production. It was excavated in almost its complete form, with red marks painted all over. It is the model for the Tochigi Prefectural Museum's official character “Mitan”.
