| Description | Naganuma Munemasa was the second son of Masamitsu, founder of the Oyama clan. His older brother was Oyama Tomomasa, the head of the Oyama clan, and his younger brother was Tomomitsu, founder of the Yuki clan. Munemasa rendered distinguished military service with his brothers at battles such as the Battle of Noginomiya, the mission to destroy the Taira clan, and the Battle of Oshu, earning Minamoto no Yoritomo’s trust. He established a close master-servant relationship with Minamoto no Yoriie, the second shogun of Japan’s Kamakura shogunate. He was known for his harsh language as he strongly criticized the reign of the third shogun, Sanetomo. |
