| Description | Oyama Tomomasa was the eldest son of Masamitsu, founder of the Oyama clan. His younger brothers were Munemasa, founder of the Naganuma clan, and Tomomitsu, founder of the Yuki clan. As the legitimate son of the Oyama clan, Tomomasa established the clan’s status as a recognized group of samurai warriors in East Japan. In 1180, he was asked to join Minamoto no Yoritomo when he raised an army, and after joining, he became one of Yoritomo’s retainers and supporters. He rendered distinguished military service at battles such as the Battle of Noginomiya, the mission to destroy the Taira clan, and the Battle of Oshu. |
